Community grants from the Parks Foundation not only help fund amazing projects that support our vibrant parks, trails and recreation in Clark County, but they can mean much more to a community.
When recession hit, Yacolt felt the effects hard, however through a generous grant, they were able to breathe new life into Town Park with a new skate park. Construction began in 2012 after the youth in Yacolt spearheaded the skate park project and even assisted in the planning. Prior to 2012, the nearest skate park was 15 miles away in Battle Ground, and the sidewalks were too dangerous for skateboarding.
In 2014, the Town of Yacolt received a community grant in the amount of $21,650 from the Parks Foundation that allowed construction of phase II and III, which increased the size of the park and included stationary equipment for skaters to test their skills in a fun and safe environment. Completing this project brought excitement to the community, not only for their new asset, but to the young people who were dedicated to seeing construction through to its fruition.
The expanded park opened to the public on August 29, 2014.
